Choose a service around the measurement you need

Begin with the decision the instrument supports: accepting a component, checking a process temperature, setting a tightening torque or recording a pressure. Its name alone does not define the calibration. Working range, resolution, required points and the tolerance of your process help establish a useful request.

Identify any contractual requirement for accreditation or a particular certificate format before ordering. Ask for confirmation of the applicable service and scope. Metrological traceability and accreditation are different matters; neither should be assumed from a general instrument catalogue.

Prepare one clear instrument list

Create one row per instrument with manufacturer, model, serial number, asset tag, measuring range, resolution and quantity. Include the functions you actually use. A multimeter may require several electrical quantities; a pressure transmitter needs its pressure range and output configuration identified.

Add previous certificates where relevant, your required calibration points and the reason for the proposed date. Flag damaged equipment, overdue instruments and items without a spare. These details help separate technical questions from scheduling questions before a visit is planned.

Plan the work at your site

On-site service depends on the instrument and the conditions available. Describe the exact work location, access rules, safe isolation arrangements, electrical supply and available workspace. Tell us about dust, vibration, temperature variation or process residues that could affect the work.

Agree who will make equipment available, disconnect and reconnect it where necessary, and authorise its return to service. Do not assume calibration can take place while a production asset remains operating. Send the list on WhatsApp to start a technical assessment and quotation.

Confirm cross-border responsibilities before scheduling

A site visit, movement of reference equipment into Guyana and shipment of an instrument to Brazil are different arrangements. Before any movement, confirm the intended service location, required documentation, responsible parties, applicable entry requirements and the treatment of any return movement.

Include site induction and contractor requirements in the enquiry. If your proposed work involves customs, travel permissions or local procurement conditions, establish what applies before confirming dates. The quotation should identify the agreed service, responsibilities and costs rather than leave these questions until dispatch.

Use the results correctly

Review the certificate against the agreed instrument identification, measured quantities, points, results, uncertainties and traceability information. Decide how the results relate to your process limits and who may release the instrument. Discuss any requested statement of conformity and its decision rule in advance.

Guyana has legal metrology requirements administered by GNBS. Calibration does not automatically replace legal verification for regulated uses. Check the applicable requirement with GNBS when an instrument is used in trade or another controlled application.
